The Society of 1908 Golf Clubs

The Society of 1908 Golf Clubs was formed in 2001 with 8 member clubs, which were all founded in the year 1908. There are now 25 member clubs, with more joining the Society each year.

The Society's objective is to promote friendship between clubs and enable members to play at other member clubs on a reciprocal basis.

It is agreed that where clubs are more than 50 miles apart, no green fee would be charged although there are a few exceptions where a reduced green fee is charged.

Most clubs will accept up to 8 visitors at a time but larger parties can be arranged, providing an appropriate group fee is paid.

You should contact the club you wish to visit in advance, to introduce yourself and make sure that there is availability on the day you wish to visit.

Each year, the Society holds an Annual Meeting where member clubs are invited to enter teams of 4 players.

In 2012, Holme Hall successfully hosted this event, which was won by a team from Chester-le-Street Golf Club. In addition to Holme Hall members who played on the day, 10 teams took part, from 9 different clubs, afar as field as Eastbourne, Darlington and Weston-super-Mare.

A member of the team from Leamington & County Golf Club reported back to his club “Holme Hall staged the event very well and our thanks go to their extremely resilient playing members Jill Haresign and Trevor Johnson who guided us round their home course throughout the pouring rain and then hosted us at an excellent presentation dinner in the evening. The hospitality was exceptional.”

The 2013 Annual Meeting took place on Monday 8 July at Worlebury Golf Club, Weston-super-Mare, although Holme Hall did not take part.

The 2014 Annual Meeting took place on Monday 7 July at Chester-le-Street Golf Club, when three teams of four from Holme Hall took part.

The 2015 Annual Meeting will take place on Monday 13 July at Ladbrook Park Golf Club, Solihull.
