Local Rules

1. OUT OF BOUNDS

(Rule 27 applies)

a)    Beyond any hedge or fence bounding the course.
b)   In or beyond Bottesford Beck and all perimeter ditches.
c)    Beyond the boundary posts to the left of the 16th, 17th and 18th holes.
d)   On or over the paths to the left of the 18th green. This line extends past the Clubhouse and to the left of and behind the 9th green.

2. WATER HAZARDS AND LATERAL WATER HAZARDS

(Rule 26 applies)

Water hazards are defined by yellow stakes. Lateral water hazards are defined by red stakes. The pond in front of the 4th tee is a water hazard when playing the 4th hole but a lateral water hazard when playing the 3rd hole. When playing the 3rd hole, it may not be possible to drop a ball “not nearer the hole” and therefore a Dropping Zone is provided in front of the 4th tee.

3. STONES IN BUNKERS

(Rule 24-1 applies)

Stones in bunkers are movable obstructions.

4. IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS

(Rule 24-2 applies)

All signs, staked or wire-netted trees, stakes and ropes defining pathways, constructed or artificially surfaced pathways within the bounds of the course and the wooden edges of such pathways, fixed sprinkler heads, inspection covers, constructed steps, storm shelters, wooden seats, the half-way house and the bell on the 9th hole are immovable obstructions.

If such an obstruction interferes with a player’s stance or the area of his intended swing, the ball may be lifted, without penalty, and dropped in accordance with the procedure prescribed in Rule 24-2b.

In addition, if a ball lies off the putting green but not in a hazard and an immovable obstruction on or within two club-lengths of the putting green of the hole being played and within two club-lengths of the ball intervenes on the line of play between the ball and the hole, the player may obtain relief as follows:

The ball must be lifted and dropped at the nearest point to where the ball lay that (a) is not nearer the hole, (b) avoids intervention and (c) is not in a hazard or on a putting green. The ball may be cleaned when lifted under this Rule.

Relief is also available if the player’s ball lies on the putting green and an immovable obstruction within two club-lengths of the putting green intervenes on his line of putt. The player may take relief as follows:

The ball must be lifted and placed at the nearest point to where the ball lay that (a) is not nearer the hole, (b) avoids intervention and (c) is not in a hazard. The ball may be cleaned when lifted under this Rule.

If a ball lies on or touches the tractor path running from the Ladies’ 9th tee, behind the 8th and 17th greens, in front of the Men’s 9th tee and across the 11th and 18th fairways, relief may be obtained under Rule 24-2b.

5. INTEGRAL PARTS OF THE COURSE

(Rule 28 applies)

The pylons and wires at the 15th hole are an integral part of the course. The ball must be played as it lies or declared unplayable under penalty.

6. GROUND UNDER REPAIR

(Rule 25-1 applies)

All areas marked with white lines are “Ground Under Repair” and relief may be taken in accordance with   Rule 25-1. The ball may be cleaned when lifted under this Rule.

7. PRACTICE PUTTING GREEN

(Rule 25-3 applies)

The practice putting green in front of the Clubhouse is a wrong putting green and if a ball lies on it, relief must be taken in accordance with Rule 25-3. The ball may be cleaned when lifted under this Rule.

8. DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES

(Rule 14-3 applies)

Players may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. If a player uses a distance measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect their play (e.g. gradient, wind speed, temperature etc.) the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional function is actually used.

PENALTY FOR BREACH OF LOCAL RULES 1-7

Match play – Loss of hole; Stroke play – Two strokes.
